I believe usability will be improved if Home and Launcher are combined into a long continuous vertical scroll. Currently, the Home screen forces you to see the covers + 4 apps, and the Launcher screen shows all apps minus the 4 top apps.

The UI seems to be forcing a false dichotomy, it's either you see some of the apps or most of the apps, but not all.

A cake analogy would be like, either you eat the cake or the icing on the cake, but not both!

The Launcher screen doesn't exactly show "all apps minus the 4 top apps". The first launcher screen shows apps/folders 5–28, and the next screen shows 29–52, etc. Anyway, I'm not for or against your suggestion, just saying I don't think it's a dichotomy, because the icons are not split to two screens but several. :)

Here are earlier questions requesting similar, though not exactly the same, things:

Alright, then it is a (1+N)chotomy where 1 is the Home screen, and N is the number of Launcher screens. So to further elaborate, I propose that the Home screen and all Launcher screens should be one. Sure, there should be some kinda line separator every 6 rows of icons, but all is one big scrollable screen. So I am free to access:

  • Covers + 4 apps
  • Most of covers + 8 apps
  • Half of covers + 12 apps
  • ...
  • 1 to 24 apps
  • 5 to 28 apps
  • 9 to 32 apps
  • etc.

I will vote for customization then, still waiting for N9 panel layout system. Silence, no even answer, that it's a MS patent now.
