The specs page on www.jolla.com/tablet does not list a magnetic compass/magnetometer. Does that mean that is it not available or was it just omitted in the listing ?

Omission of a magnetic compas/magnetometer would be unfortunate as many applications such as planetariums or augmented reality apps make use of it.

Agree, magnetic compass is required for apps such as Stelarium!

It would be nice if Jolla Tablet has e-compass and gyro (!) too!

An eCompass is a tilt compensated electronic compass utilizing an accelerometer and a magnetometer.

From Wikipedia.

Interesting, I haven't know that such combined parts already exists! So far I've just heard about doing this in software by combining the magnetometer and accelerometer data.

Agree. Many users do not understand that the usual GPS compass indication is just a bearing which relies on movement.
