If possible, I'd love to see a Consumer Infrared Port added to this tablet. Most video and audio devices today are still controlled only by IR, and most of the high-end Android phones now include IR ports, so it hopefully wouldn't be too hard to add. Used properly, the tablet form-factor works very nicely as a remote control.

(Of course, my biggest personal reason is that I'd love to port my own N900 IR control app onto a Sailfish device. ;) )

+1 This would be awsome replacement for my old Logitech universal remote.

This is absolutely "must have" feature for tablets, but why not for phones* too. Maybe even Jollas own remotecontrol app too, so that functionality would work out of box..

  • I think IR TOH would be great addon for Jolla Phone. By giving us IR TOH also, it would also make better sence make that own remote controller app..

I've been hoping for an IR TOH for a while; I even started porting my Pierogi app to Sailfish expecting that it would eventually be there. But it's never happened (nor has the phone ever made it to the US), so I kind of gave up on it.

I'd love to see a Jolla remote control app, but I wouldn't mind if they just pulled the same stunt Nokia did with the N900 -- silently add an IR port to it, but with no software support at all. I think it makes sense to shove as much hardware onto the device as you can, even if you can't afford to create software to support it; the apps will eventually be created by someone... :)

Exactly, software can be added later, hardware not! Sitting on the coach in style swiping away on your Jolla tablet and alternatively having to hassle with x ugly black, utterly confusing "my standard is the standard" Japanese (?) remotes is like wearing a tuxedo vest on top of your pyjama trousers.

I think an infrared port would definitely make a lot sense, because a tablet is quite often used for surfing on the couch. So it would be self-evident to use the same device for surfing an cotrolling all the multimedia devices in your room.

Jolla Roadmapping Meeting - Friday 16.01.2015

Thank you for your contribution to the Jolla Tablet project!

We receive a lot of ideas and suggestions, which we are grateful for, but all of them can't be implemented. We've reviewed your idea and unfortunately it is not something we can implement, at least right now.

However, we will keep all suggestions, and might revisit this decision in the future if we see an opportunity to implement this feature-request in an upcoming product/SW release.

Best regards,
The Jolla Tablet Team

Thanks! I knew it would be a stretch, given how few mobile devices today are supporting IR. I hope you'll consider it in the future!

For now, I guess I'll be sticking with Android, then; the high-end HTC and Samsung phones all have IR. I've recently gained access to a Samsung tablet with IR too, so I'll be seeing if I can get a decent tablet-sized UI going for my universal remote app. :)
