Jolla would just be buying the components from a supplier, the patent holders for the technology are not involved, as they deal directly with the component manufacturer. As for the glance screen, if there are no patents imposed on the functionality, then Jolla could implement the functionality. This does not regard the component supplier, or even the use of specific display technology, although this functionality favors the OLED displays. Even if the implementation of glance is not possible due to intellectual property, I would still vouch for OLED displays, this is something I see as degrading to the current Jolla.

hmmm yeah.. maybe the displays cost a lot.. and the rest of the hardware put together would put a hole in our pockets :P

We don't really know, as it depends heavily on a set of variables. There are several posts regarding the AMOLED display, but I haven't seen a statement by a Jolla spokesperson clarifying the decision to use LCD. If there's is such a statement, Could someone provide a link?

Personally I want it for two reasons.

1 Deeper blacks in dark environments.

2 I miss the Low Power Mode that I had on my previous phone.

I dislike the whole idea of buying patents, more likely the world should get free of those and just let the best manufacturers gain their profit. Meanwhile, if amoled is wanted, let's just see what's the price of the displays and how does it develop

This is a guess, but I suppose the licence is paid by the display manufacturer to the patent holder, and Jolla would just pay for the selected displays. I got that your question was about buying the patent itself.
