[Request] Add NFC enabled mobile payment to SailfishOS 2.0 and Jolla Phone 2
Please add a NFC enabled mobile payment system to SailfishOS 2.0. First start with Finland and Scandinavia, maybe China as well. Then extend to the rest of the Europe, India, and other countries. Apple is going to run into some problems with Apple Pay in the EU, and as a European company I believe that Jolla could implement a better system with partners before Apple Pay takes off.
Northern Europe is the perfect test market for mobile payment: People are very open to new technologies, ready to try out new features in mobile operating systems. Mobile payment could be on of the largest revenue sources for Jolla, and with the quick release cycles for Sailfish OS it is a lot easier to integrate new features into the platform compared to iOS or Android.
Don't underestimate how complex it is to develop such a mobile payment service. There's a long entrenched value chain in payment services, and it's not that easy to get into. It could be better to work together with specialised transaction service providers to work on such an integration, rather than using a considerable amount of manpower frombsuch a small team.
In Holland there's now an implementation of contact payments (NFC), developed by a consortium of banks and payment transaction providers. Other countries may have differentvsolutions. It's not something that 5 people at Jolla can easily develop and commercialise.

The Swedish company Seamless seems to be very successful with their mobile payment implementation, and they are active in quite a few countries by now. Seamless went for QR code and NFC enabled mobile payment, which makes sense - since using NFC requires well tested security measures. The QR code based approach could be implemented with a smaller team, guess it would essentially be a SailfishOS app connecting to their backend system. http://www.nfcworld.com/2013/04/11/323448/seamless-adds-nfc-to-qr-payments-platform/ Seamless launched a Windows Phone app in June, and they are working on integrating their wallet technology into the OS: http://ir.seamless.se/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=852316 Maybe there is interest in a SailfishOS app as well, would not be surprised to learn that someone from Jolla has been in contact with them already.

Working with a 3rd party can help to build critical mass, which is impossible to do for Jolla alone.
bilgy_no1 ( 2014-12-23 09:25:14 +0200 )editQuoting the Seamless CEO: "Our goal is to make SEQR available for everyone, regardless of operating system, ..." http://ir.seamless.se/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=852316 Sound like an invitation, given that there's enough interest by the Jolla community to embrace that service. One of the advantages of Seamless would be that they can connect directly to your bank and account, avoiding the usage of credit cards for mobile payments - which means lower fees as well. http://paymentsviews.com/2012/10/17/from-sweden-with-love-mobile-payments-and-qr-codes/
