...With a proper adapter? And what functionality would work? I have tried one adapter (for Samsung), works properly but only for sound. It doesn't react to buttons at all. This is all so unclear

Yeah, I was also confused. It would be nice to get a statement on what kind of headsets are supposed to work.

Hey, a comment on this issue. I have tried two headsets (Nokia E52 & N9) with call/answer button and both work ok. Problem I have is the lack of tone range with these. If I listen to music or watch a stream only music with background vocals comes through and also chorus, but lead vocals seem to be missing. I have tried with Koss portapro and sounds were great and everything in order. I have a feeling this is related to audio jacks 4pin configuration/routing, because I can get all the sounds from those two headsets by keeping the call/answer button pressed down...

Nokia E7 and N97 (and maybe some more models) headphones have the far best quality of sound in that class that I ever heard (compared to them N9's stock headphones were really "cheap"). Those work 100% with the N9, so it's the same standard. Pretty shame that not all the functions (play/rev/forward, volume..) are supported by Jolla and as I can tell never will be

After 1.1.1.27 there is support for wired headphones (sorry I couldn't find the exact link). I cannot say exactly for E7 headphones, but the button on the headphones for my 1020 works fine.

I'd say that the old...well, let's cathegorise them as Symbian generation and Lumia headsets are also not compatible. I never heard any better headset that of thos comming with N97/E7 etc. I'd very much like to be able to use them on Jolla, but nowhere to turn.

The point is, will Nokia headset buttons work with Jolla. Apparently an answer came from jolla's R&D: No. Audio and mic will work with an apropriate adapter (confirmed), and Sailfish supports only call/end button at the moment, but apparently not a multibutton headset (that modulates button signals). Here's the quote form support:

after consulting R&D folks it turned out that Jolla/SailfishOS currently supports the make/end call button only on wired headsets. With Bluetooth headsets it is better. The press of a (single) button is indicated to the phone so that the headset pulls the MIC line to ground. If the headset has several buttons then there must be a pulso code for them - the phone should interpret the code by reading the MIC line. I recall Nokia products relied on a standard called ECI. This is missing from SailifishOS now, unfortunately. This also implies that no adapter will help as the interpreting part is missing from Jolla
