I have yet to receive my Jolla, but from what i know, the Camera cover (when app is minimised) has no functions such as the messaging/people/web/etc. I was thinking that if possible, we add a usage to the swipe left/right on the cover.

Here are some options that i have (can be applied to either swipe left or right)

  • Instantly take a photo
  • Instantly record a video
  • Instantly take a photo with/without flash
  • Instant front camera photo
  • It would be a huge plus if it's user customisable

The idea is so that we take the 'don't miss a moment' tag to another level. The app can either open after it takes the photo/starts recording, or just stay in the background.

I think this would be a great function, so vote up if you think so too. I'm not a developer, so i do not know if this is possible or not, just thought i'd contribute.

Would love it if a Jolla dev could say whether if this is doable or not!

I like the idea of taking quick shot straight from the cover view, without pointing etc.

Yeap, that's the idea. I think, for me at least, quick capture is fine enough. I added the different options just to give some more ideas that might be usable.

I liked it even before you posted it here ;)

I imagine the cover view will be far more utilized in the future when we get more apps and services with additional cover view functionality.

Lets keep it simple - two actions:

  • open in photo mode
  • open in video mode

What do you think ? :)

I was going to suggest the same thing, but searched first. I think the "open in [camera|video] mode" is the most useful and sensible. As others have commented, the camera is not ready to take pictures all the time, but being able to open directly to the desired mode would be a good idea - and probably not too difficult for the developers either so they could get it into one of the next couple of updates.

I don't expect it to be able to take the picture right away - just to take the picture as soon as possible. But I agree that this might start a wave of complaints like "why do I have to wait so long" from not-so-experienced users. Oh well...

Good idea, my only worry is that the feedback needed would be fairly long, ie, on how long time it takes to set up camera and do the action. It might not 'feel' right in many cases/feel slow?

Make it optional that allow user to find a view and shot directly from the cover, please. It must be awesome!
