This post is a wiki. Anyone with karma >75 is welcome to improve it.
I really like Jolla. I also like the community, and the hardware, and the phone, and the environment. There's nothing to not like, except the proprietary aspects of sailfish. The lower parts of the software stack more open than the top of it. I would really love to support you guys, but I kind of feel guilty with that in mind. Ubuntu, Android, and Firefox are all open source, and the 2 latter are doing great, and the former not having enough time for us to judge their success. If you open source all parts, only good can come from it.
Together, but not that much.

anandrkris ( 2015-02-09 12:15:12 +0200 )editRemember that Jolla is surviving mostly on funding from Angel Investors. So until Jolla has a stable income through licences, app sales, or something else, I would expect that Jolla will do whatever they need to do to remain appealing to potential investors.
Keeping part of the OS proprietary is part of that, also helps them control the early development of SailfishOS rather than being muscled out by bigger companies with more resources.

hdante ( 2015-02-09 12:22:47 +0200 )editI am waiting for a good opensource tablet. The Jolla tablet looked like it was the one, but after a bit of research I see that it is not as open as it claims. I guess i'll have to keep waiting.
