Summary of Owncloud related solutions using Jolla:

  • CalDAV calendars can be synced using a CalDAV/CardDAV-Account OR Syncevolution
  • CardDAV contacts can by synced using a CalDAV/CardDAV-Account OR Syncevolution
  • OwnNotes app is available for synchronizing notes (text files)
  • Nextcloud Notes synchronizes with Owncloud/Nextcloud Notes app and supports markdown syntax, has no offline functionality!
  • Tomboy or Gnote notes using grauphel and Tomdroid (Android app) as described here
  • Fuoten and newsFish (Jolla Store) are available for synchronizing with the Owncloud News app
  • ownCloud bookmarks can be accessed with cloudMarks (available in Jolla Store; source code) - doesn't seem to work anymore
  • Access to files (in your owncloud) via WebDAV using Cargo Dock (available in Jolla Store)
  • Ghostcloud is a native Owncloud app. You can download, upload files and create directory right now. Support for Copy/Paste will be implement in the future. With the photo backup daemon on openrepos you can also backup your new photos automatically.
  • Directories can be synced using SailSync ownCloud (it performs this task using the official ownCloud client).

Missing features:

  • Accounts support (apart from CalDAV) would be nice.
  • file sharing is missing

Edit 23.08.14.: OwnNotes is not available anymore for Sailfish OS. From Openrepos: "Changelog: No more available for Sailfish OS"

Edit 15.02.15.: The native ownCloud app has now some more nice feature.

Edit 03.02.16.: added newsFish

Edit 20.12.18.: added SailSync ownCloud

Edit 20.12.18.: added Nextcloud Notes

Edit 21.12.18: updated information on OwnNotes, Nextcloud Notes, Fuoten, Sailsync

Onwcloud storage would be great! My company uses OwnCloud. I tried the Android app, but it is not working well on the Jolla.

Hi, I use the service OwnCloud (7) hosted by the association Zaclys: (http://cloud.zaclys.com/)

All I found on the internet is very confusing and complicated for the sync.

Could you guide me into the steps to connect and sync the People app to the OwnCloud contacts with Syncevolution?(Service and sync address to use for https://webcloud7.zaclys.com)

Thanks

As an owncloud developer I can say that (at least I) will work/help on this eventually. Account support for stuff like photo-sharing has to be found out though.

I'll most probably be doing some standard stuff as mentioned in https://together.jolla.com/question/540/support-for-carddav-address-books/#post-id-762 :)

Yes ensure the Carddav and Caldav feature get added (voted): https://together.jolla.com/question/534/support-for-caldav-calendars-eg-google-calendar/

Harbour does not yet allow Buteo sync plugins, but I think to sync photos and files to owncloud that would be the right approach.

If I am not all wrong owncloud also supports a key value store. So a full settings backup to owncloud could be interesting as well.

can the integration plugin be written in a way that allows multiple owncloud accounts? Currently, there is lack of this feature in the desktop client and it appears to be in high demand as people use different servers for personal, work or any other purpose.

Wrap-up at this point:

  • Caldav calendars and Carddav contacts can be synced using Syncevolution (now) or Buteo (in the future), or with WebDAV Account in Settings menu (works with OC7, but not relieable)
  • OwnNotes app is available for synchronizing notes (text files, seems to be discontinued ... or not?)
  • OcNews app is available for synchronizing with the Owncloud News app
  • A file/photo synchronization app is missing
  • Accounts support since 1.0.7.16 for WebCal, WebCard still missing

Hey Owncloud-Friends is ist possible to use the android owncloud app for instant upload? I've created an InstantUpload Folder and linked the camera folder to the android-camera folder (ln -s /home/nemo/Pictures/Camera/ /data/sdcard/DCIM/Camera), but it doesn't seem to work... Any Hints?

thanks, Ray

file/photo sync app is missing? This is Linux, couldn't we just use the regular Linux sync stuff?

dsilveira ( 2014-05-05 15:51:27 +0200 )edit

you could do it with rsync and wevdavs for example. I'm a bit lazy for that though...I'm wondering why the android app isn't doing it by itself

hi i think an integration of an owcloud integration would be great.
I currently want to go away from google &co clouds and sync tools.
i want to build in a long term, my own server for syncing all my data, contact and calendars.
owncloud would be a really good alternative.
don't want to have different service for each function that i need. too much complicated to maintain clean.

Regarding OwnNotesit is looking for a new maintainer, since @Khertan stopped using Jolla/SailfishOS. He says he’s totally fine with someone taking over it.

I suspect you just volunteered to become the maintainer if I read between the lines in the thread on github, congrats! ;-)

For real: I would also think it would be beneficial for the app to make it to the official store from OpenRepos (now that Python support will be there for real on Jan 7) to get a bigger audience and (possibly) developers in contact with it.

I hope someone who actually has coded anything properly will volunteer.

But if no-one does in a few months, I probably will have to try. I like OwnNotes quite a bit.

Hi @jjaone, @Kondou any change that you could use the files from @Khertan on github to release ownNotes again? At least create a .rpm package to start to release it again? Or it could be integrated in the UI of Sailfish at some point @eric ? Sail on!

Hi,

I wanted to bring this back u for discussion. Right now I'm confused myself where we stand with owncloud. Based on my experience the status as of Today Early July 2015 is:

  • CalDav: Sync does work, but event time is off depending on your local timezone (1hr here in germany)
  • CardDav: Not working out of the box (no easy hack in sight)
  • Notes: OwnNotes not available anymore
  • Files: access works through CargoDock, OwnCloud-App , no sync

So, not really thrilling, is it?

You need to setup two accounts to have carddav working (at least I got it to work that way) although it is pretty useless as it fails to sync everything, missing contacts, missing items from contacts and so on.

chemist ( 2015-07-06 14:10:53 +0200 )edit

FileCase app also works with owncloud files too.

pmelas ( 2015-07-06 15:28:14 +0200 )edit

Both CalDAV and CardDAV work for me on a same account. First one has the hour problem and latter syncs reliably only one way, from server to client, so I manage my contacts on the server end.

Owncloud app from Jolla store uploads and downloads ok, and syncs images too. It has a bug regarding 3g/wifi selection (uploads on 3g when it should do it by wifi). Also to get image sync working, you have to start the application once after every reboot.

Manatus ( 2015-07-06 17:36:41 +0200 )edit

Manatus,

thanks for the feedback. Can you give me some directions how you've setup CardDav to achieve the one-way-sync. This should work for me as well. I'm on own cloud 7.0.3 and sailfish 1.1.6.27.

Groucho ( 2015-07-06 19:19:23 +0200 )edit

Sorry to sound too nitpicking, but the terminology is not always clear with plain 'client' and 'server' and I would much more prefer 'remote' and 'local' instead. This especially if using SyncEvolution, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SyncEvolution/Synchronize-evolution-data-with-caldav-cardav-server (step 7): "(for caldav/carddav client is remote server & server is local client i.e. syncevolution)".

Are there any news about ownCloud account integration. I really like the idea of syncing files with my own server, because I can control access and encryption on my own.

CardDAV can actually be sync'd two way with owncloud with, at least on my nginx, a little bit of server-side hacking (basically rewrite rules), see here: TJC question

So, while the support is buggy, it is there! I feel this should be noted above.

I've created a small perl script to automatically upload new photos to an owncloud server. It's available on https://github.com/umglurf/owncloud-uploader There is no gui, so developer mode and command line knowledge is required

Hello everybody,

this is a nice list but far from the fact of a working SYNC.

Owncloud with 8.2.x (self signed certificate) with Sailfish OS v2.0.1.7 does not sync properly.

It does not work with the CalDAV and CardDAV native Sailfish OS Account neither with the SyncEvolution Software download able via OpenRepros.

Futher on there is no OwnNotes anymore in the OpenRepros (It is listed but there is no download link as the project is down for SailfishOS.

I have not found a straight forward manual which is enabling me to sync my data as I do with my Android tablet or Linux Machines or Windows Machines with my Owncloud Server. With the mentioned OSes it works fine. Why not with Sailfish OS. Why do I read a lot of it works but nobody wrote down how it works and what they have done in order to get it work!? I get this feeling of that there is going something wrong!

Anyway, a new chance now ... to sort it out in any way.

What I would like to see: Either a manual which enables me SYNCING at least my PHONEBOOK and my KALENDARS forward and backwards as needed and in a second step a working SYNC for my TASKS and NOTES ....

or

.... if not working as I suspect a quick solution from Jolla as I think this should be working at least besides of course other basic functions ....

or

.... last but not least a step by step manual in order to be able to get on with creating something by myself or in cooperation with the community.

So far, I would like to thank you for your understanding and I'm looking forward to your answers already.

Thank you so much.

Kind regards,

megalith

for using self-signed certs, you have to make sure to add it to the trusted list if certs on your system. there is a certificate manager app in warehouse for that. also you should configure all the recommended http redirects for service discovery on your owncloud http server. i have quite useful results for calendar and contacts with that (but i'm not a power user in that area...) for news i can recommend ocnews, iirc also from warehouse.

Hello raven24

Thank you for your input. This is not the matter. The connection is working but the functionality when it gets to syncing stuff is really poor. See also my other post for details ;).
