Adding a new alarm in clock app with daily repetition requires tapping on every single day of the week to activate each day. A "inverse" function could minimize required actions!

Activate monday to saturday? -> tap sunday then inverse. (2 taps instead of 6) Activate all week? -> just tap inverse. (1 tap instead of 7) And so on.

Option1: A "one item" flickable pulley menue in clock app "inverse selection". Would be a two item menue on existing alarms, as "delete" is already a pulley option there)

Option2: Tapable text "inverse selection" above or below the row containing the seven dots/weekdays.

Option3: Add a tapable icon representing the inverse action somewhere, maybe as eighth item before monday or after sunday.

I agree that tapping on, say, 5 days of the week is a bit tedious. However, I think your "invert selection" proposal is a bit too complicated as it is not really self-explanatory. Most users will not create alarms on a daily basis (I mean, that's the point of having repeating alarms, right?), so they will likely not remember this kind of power-user feature.

The most frequent scenario I can imagine is selecting Mon-Fri and/or Sat & Sun. I would thus prefer to have some option to select these groups with one tap. While not exactly as general and powerful as your 'invert selection' button, it is more self-explanatory and won't confuse users. In addition, this would give an opportunity to exclude public holidays (depending on regional settings, of course).

Thanks for your comment. my main usecase is entering an alarm for every day of the week. I am a Freelancer, no day is like the other to me. I daily activate a different fitting alarm for every evening/morning. I do not want to care which weekday i select which alarm additionally... Regardless of the Alarm-time i select or which day is today, it has to ring tomorrow. simple. To achive this, i activate all days, everytime i do a new alarmtime.

Another possiblity i would be fine with is having all days selected by default. Most usecases will want to deselect less items than one has to select now anyway. e.g. you Sat-Sun example.

@mosen: would it be suitable in your case to have alarm profiles, editable using a day-time graph? Inactive alarms could be empty squares, active ones filled. Inactive timers could be lines between points on the day axis. Active ones could be long empty rectangles. Existing alarms and timers could be rearranged by tap/hold+drag gestures. Overlapping items would split apart on tap/hold, for selection in the following 0.5-2.0 seconds. Otherwise, single taps on items will toggle their activation state. This might not lower the number of activation/deactivation taps, so the GUI would need other widgets to do the job: dropdown/select for the period to invert - hours, days, weeks, 2-week, 4-week or quarter - plus detail for a given single selected item (or detail for an alarm group) and the Invert action button or link itself. More information at a glance, more readily editable and invert ready, too.

Or just create one alarm once, set all days, and then simply just change the time.

Am I missing something?

@pichlo I think Edward Tufte just turned over and pulled the duvet away.

I invite you to watch some of these lectures, but if you haven't seen them (but also don't have the hours to spare) just take the one which he begins by talking about the data throughput of the retina-optic nerve-brain connection. If you've time to listen but not watch then the audio can be as informative as watching him at the podium talking:

@pichlo yes, you are missing one of my unelaborated usecases of needing several alarms to wake up after sometimes only 3-4 hours of heavy sleep. Activating four preset alarms is much faster than adjusting the clock four times. Thats one reason why i asked for a periodic missed events (alarm/call/msg...) reminder. https://together.jolla.com/question/53692/feature-or-app-request-improve-missed-callmessage-reminder-with-mutiple-periodic-notification-options-adjustable-per-event/

@rdmo, nice suggestion. i am just thinking from the practial side. It would be relatively easy to just add an "inverse button", thus the chances of actual implementation would be higher than with your rather complex your suggestion.

And one general thing... you all give me the feeling that you are thinking to much about my usecase. please just stop, its not worth to spend the time. I have multiple ones as i am a heavy alarm-clock user in professional kitchen. The next thing i am waiting for is "why don't you use the calendar?" :P I have multiple occasions a day where i have to set a reminder/alarm not worthy a calender entry. And sometimes some of those entries would be reused periodically. Trust me. My life would be easier with just that simple inverse button. It's just about making weekday selection in alarms a little faster with minimum effort. I appreciate your comments, thanks.
