Currently basically impossible to make email-sized video clips with the stock camera app. Also in the use case of being a dashcam, 1080p video is just too big when you're talking about hours of video*.

I'd like the ability to capture 480p and 720p (maybe even 360p) videos directly, and maybe have a knob for the quality/size-setting used in the compression, and adjustable FPS for the video recording. I was expecting more options than the nokia phones i had previously (since this is supposed to be a nerdy device), not less...

Note: i tried searching for this question, didnt find one.

*camera direct-to-SD support would help, but this isnt that question, and it'd still be crazy big files.

I think, it's really necessary feature.!! I can't understand where is the problem to do that. Maybe we should do new request ... this is too old.

Besides, there are more camera related applications in the Store/Openrepos, but it would be good, if the default app has settings for several resolutions. I don't think, that 2Mpx/FullHD/1080p is useless, hence this is the Xperia XA2 device's native resolution, and most of the displays/televisons has the very same. Even the so called 4K is not more, than 8Mpx. So, I'd like to see much more standard resolutions to be set for photo/video.

Same problem here now. It seems not possible to send videos >10Mb in Whatsup messenger. But this is only a view seconds of Full HD video :/ I think we don't get any native support in near future. So I have to extend the question to:

Is there any app for easy video conversion availble?

on Warehouse there is ffmpeg binary (static and standard). What missing is a gui for that. I don't want to use the terminal for converting HD content 1080p/30 to useable qcif/10fps everytime. What else: Android apps like media converter etc. (but they have limited access to files)

Just so people know, combining:

https://github.com/kimmoli/camres

and

https://github.com/kimmoli/onyx-camera-settings-plugin

can make a working quality settings widget also for the jolla1, and

xdg-user-dirs-update --set PICTURES /media/sdcard/blah/your-pictures-dir-here ...

xdg-user-dirs-update --set VIDEOS /media/sdcard/blah/your-videos-dir-here ...

can be used to "move" the videos/pictures directories to which the camera writes to the SD.

Now this is just all very source-based and manual, but anyways just saying that it is possible.
