Add additional hotspot features like like 1. Able to create hotspot with out sharing device's internet connection . 2. Limiting or flexibility to choose devices which can connect to hotspot.

Hi, just wondering for what (1) would be useful? Agreed with (2) however!

@simo: I can imagine that for example if you just want to SSH to the device (for development, file transfer, etc.) but not want to share its connectivity.

@MartinK as there is no adhoc mode I guess any case that involves phone access network without having a wlan AP makes this valid, incl but not limited to DLNA playback, development and backup.

for 2 it would be good to have a list of connected clients displayed somewhere, maybe in events view makes the most sense.

I would welcome the possibility to use the hotspot without Internet. I have the following use case: my iPad with limited storage is well suited for video playback. The Jolla Phone is not, but has lots of storage via a micro sd card. The WLAN/WiFi hotspot allows the iPad to access files on the phone via an FTP server installed there and play videos using the "nPlayer" software with streaming, i.e. without copying the files to the iPad.

When I am somewhere without cell signal (recently on a cruise ship), I can't enable the hotspot! So, bad luck, no movies! However, once the hotspot is enabled, the Internet connection can go away or can be turned off, but the hotspot continues to work.

Therefore I see no technical reason why the Internet connection must be available in order to turn on the hotspot.

then the requested feature is rather "enable hotspot even if no mobile data is available/enabled"?

Yes, this is what I mean. It sounds quite similar to "Able to create hotspot with out sharing device's internet connection" - but is, in fact, slightly different and simpler, as it requires no extra UI settings.

1) Sharing the internet connection is the original intention of hotspot. In german this setting is called "Internetfreigabe" (Internetsharing). 2) You need to enter WPA passphrase, so access is already limited to those you gave the password.

So the question is not very constructive in my opinion.

He calls it hotspot, so it be...change it to whatever you like, anything in that regard that is not called adhoc is probably meant to access the internet while adhoc means only two clients without server. The general idea is probably to not have an active mobile-data connection open and save battery hours?!
