The app drawer should be able just slide partially open to be able to launch app among topmost rows. This would replace nicely the removed four app launch icons bottom of home screen.

It's now behaving like jump to open, I suggest to change the action to slide to open e.g. you can left app draver partially, half or some other ratio open and then select app icon to be lauched from visible area. Intuitive action to close partially open app draver is to slide to close or click somewhere above the draver like the browser behaves when dealing with tabs. The jump to open gesture can be retaned also by just enabling the fast throw to open slide action e.g. more slowly slide just lefts app draver partially open and faster slide action opens it fully.
