WhatsApp google drive backup stalls

Hi,

I am using the native WhatsApp-android client. It was installed it via the google play app . (As: https://together.jolla.com/question/30926/howto-install-google-play-on-original-jolla-phone-sbj/)

Upto the 4th of August the app was able to upload a backup to my Google Drive (=GD). All subsequent GD backup attempts got stuk at "Google Drive back-up voorbereiden" (EN: Preparing Google Drive back-up) under the progress-line.

After reading some posts I decided to try the Android clean-install as described in: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1406350&postcount=47

When I inspected /opt/alien aforehand, I observed that /home/nemo was also mounted under the /opt/alien, so I took the extra security measure of a reboot after removing the android support app, which indeed resulted with that dir (and some others) no longer mounted.

After that I carefully emptied /opt/alien/ and the other directories mentioned in that post and existing on my Jolla.

After reboot, reinstall android support & google play store, I copied my recent local backup msgstore.db.crypt12 to a new ~/android_storage/WhatsApp/Databases/ (as described on https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/android/20887921) and reinstalled WhatsApp again.

As predicted by this help-page the WhatsApp client tried to download the Google Drive backup, but this also seems to get stuck on a similar disfunctional network connection. After some timeout it fell back on the aforementioned local backup.

I would like to restore the Google Drive backup connection again, any ideas how to solve this?

App messages do arrive (sometimes a bit late, but alas..)

I did not recognise any of the messages that "journalctl -af" gave me during the attempts, would there be another log of, for example, the android stack (Dalvik?) that I can inspect for related messages?

I also have had Aptoid installed for a while, but removed that again.

Sailfish OS: 2.0.2.51 Jolla device= 1.0.0.13

regards, Hans
