First, Happy New Year to all the Sailors!
As we know, Sailfish OS has updated from 1.x to 2.x for more than 2 years, and the UI changed a lot. Some people may prefer the new UI style, but some people like me still prefer the 1.x style to the 2.x. For me, one of the most remarkable changes which I still can’t really get used to is the “swipe up from bottom” gesture, which brings the Events View on 1.x and the Launcher on 2.x. In my own view, the Events View should get higher priority than the Launcher, especially for nowaday Events View which includes lots of setting shortcuts on the top. Being able to enter and quit the Events View easily wherever I am is very friendly to me(I know I can choose “Quick Event access” in the setting on Sailfish 2.x and enter the Events View by swiping from left edge, but I feel really uncomfortable using that as a single-hand user. And if I want to go back to previous app from the Events View, I will need at least 2 steps to do that. I'll talk more about that later). Launcher might be less important for me because I already have covers of running apps in the home screen, through which I can easily switch running apps without entering the Launcher. For opening a new app, I think it’s acceptable to enter the Launcher after going back to home screen. However, I’m not sure if most Sailfish fans have the same opinion with me, so here I make a little poll of that:
The options are listed below as the first two Answers. Just vote for the one you prefer.
If most people prefer to enter the Events View by this gesture, I really think Jolla should think about changing this option back to 1.x style. (Although it might be too late to talk about it 2 years after the Sailfish 2.x released. )
Also I have some other things to talk about the Sailfish 2.x UI. I will write them as another Answer below.
P.S.: Here is a video about entering the Events View on Sailfish OS 1.x:
