Battery issues, can't charge the phone properly anymore

I started having issues with my battery after upgrading to Sailfish 3. It would consume battery until there's not a single bit of juice left. This led to an issue where the phone would try to boot when I plugged in the USB cable, with the screen light at full power.

This led to the following loop :

  1. Warning about phone being unlocked
  2. Sony logo (full bright and white screen)
  3. Might show the charging battery logo (sometimes not even reached)
  4. Power off
  5. Repeat

As far as I remember, the android version did not take that long (I think it booted another partition, or some fast boot feature ?) to show the battery charging logo and then go into sleep (charging mode).

Tonight it seems my battery stopped charging altogether, at rare times I was able to see the red battery screen with a lightning above it, but then it would power off. After replugging it, the LED was going in cycles from red to green to white, sometimes staying on green, sometimes not.

I managed to charge it a bit by going into fastboot (blue led), and it finally started charging again. The thing is, now it is displaying the small charging logo in the taskbar, even when not plugged in, and if I plug-in the cable and unplug it, I get the "USB disconnected" notification. image description

I tried getting more info using the Hunger Meter app, but it doesn't display battery info correctly: It just says

----- mWh for Full/Current status, and shows 100% battery charged while the taskbar is showing 32%. (It is also displaying a negative for "time left till empty")

So, is my battery dead ? Is this an issue with sailfish ? Should I reinstall android (I'd rather avoid this option) ? Is there any tool I could run to diagnostic the issue ?
