Bluetooth headset audio routing fails

I have two bluetooth audio devices, connecting to my Sony Xperia XA2 running Jolla/SFOS version 3.0.3.9.

  • a UE BOOM loudspeaker (pairs correctly, and routs audio correctly)
  • a Sony WF-1000X wireless headset (pairs correctly, does not route audio)

Expected behaviour. - Device is paired correctly - Bluetooth settings allow automatic (re-)connections to device. - Automatic (re-)connection works successfully for device. - Sound is automatically routed to device when connected

BUG: The Sony earphones do not get any sound routed (instead the sound is played with the internal speakers in the phone). To compare, the UE BOOM loudspeakers play sound as expected when connected (i.e. audio routing works).

Workaround: Open bluetooth settings and disconnect then reconnect the WF-1000X. After this, audio is routed as expected.

Is there anything I can do to fix this locally and/or help track down any bug?
