For those interested in translating Sailfish OS to arabic. I have started work here (unofficial-jolla-language-pack-ar)
Steps:
- Fork the repo
- Install QT linguist [Make sure that the target translation language is Arabic]
- Start translating
- Release the translation -- release as in file settings and add
_arto the end of the qm file. Examplesettings_ar.qm - Create a pull request, and I will merge.
The "Release the translation" step is not really that important, we can script it later.
For discussions about particular translation, create an Issue. Example: Remove From History

I am investigating solutions for combining rtl with ltr chars. Until then, I am halting translation efforts seeing as how it is time consuming and I fear that if I can't find a solution for true rtl, it will be a waste of valuable time.
I initially thought that it would be taken care of by itself...
Assume the following source
3 messages --> %n messages
when translated it becomes
رسائل --> 3 رسائل %n
Now add an icon in between...
The icon variable is not set in the translation source...

This project is dead, translation can continue, however adoption will not happen until jolla adds true rtl support. Image 1 was achieved by manually inserting
LayoutMirroring.enabled: true
LayoutMirroring.childrenInherit: true
anchors.left: parent.left
to EventEditPage.qml, this is not an ideal solution. Even if programmatically inserted..it's not a viable solution. Mirroring everything breaks the ui(Save and Cancel are on the opposite sides). Waiting for RTL support by Jolla....

Correction: this statement is wrong The problem with RTL support is that it seems that it was never considered. I have found an instance whilst translating that contradicts the later statement(RTL). I have also noticed that the design language works with RTL languages, YES, there are issues, but as of now(21 files translated), only the following files needed to be appended. Granted, I can't find most of what I have translated...but still.

I have kept things a bit hectic in the repo, I wanted to document everything even mistakes, but things are getting out of control. If only Arabic would garner enough upvotes here and finally get included in the Pootle, then translating would be much more easier and accessible. Hopefully one RTL language makes it through.
If anyone know someone who knows someone who knows Arabic and is willing to contribute, please share this thread with them or forword them to the project.
