When the phone is in landscape, the vkb keep the same layout than in vertical mode and touches are larger because of the new space available. While some people (with big fingers ? :-p) might appreciate this, it could also be used to keep the same touches size and had new ones like numbers or common special characters.
Of course this behaviour should be optional.
