Most of the PC clients and some mobile clients (e.g. Xabber) for XMPP show some kind of indication when the other side in chat is typing a message. I think it would be nice to have some kind of subtle indication about that in the messaging app. We are all used to it and there is IMHO no reason not to show this information when it it is available (GTalk and the Facebook XMPP API support this as well). The behaviour would be consistent through the different account types and I am sure telepathy supports this.
Some things such as XMPP Stanzas are out of our hands for now but I guess implementation of this could be fairly easy. What I had in mind was a small pencil icon with the word "Typing..." next to it (maybe animated dots) centred above the input field.

This is covered in XEP-0085 and is in the status "Final Standard". Not supporting this makes the chat experience inconsistent with almost all of the XMPP clients.

EDIT: Does anyone has an idea what/where the indication should be?
