Rationale:

In both quiet and noisy environments you could easily miss alerts and the default led cold be not enough. Also, being able to use the flash light as a alert led, could make life easier for hear impaired people.

You should be able to enable "flash for notification" from sound and alert settings. Ideally you would have different blink pattern for different events and have flash enabled "always" or "when sound off".
