Bug: unable to create two avatars from single image

I have edited two contacts in People app setting each one of them a different crop from the same image stored in gallery. After changing the second contact's avatar the same crop was set to the first contact as well. It seems it is currently impossible to set a different crops of a single image as avatars of multiple contacts. The avatars are always "synced" to the last crop for all contacts referencing the same image.

[Edit 18.12.2014] Unfortunately this rather simple bug stays unfixed nearly a year later :(
