Mail: display number of *new* emails in addition to unread emails

People often keep messages in unread state intentionally, e.g. to be sure to read it again or answer to it later. When doing so, the displayed number of unread emails is not ideal, because you never know for sure how much of them are actually new. Mail clients like Thunderbird differentiate between unread email and new emails (in Thunderbird, highlighting the folder with blue text color)

So, in addition to displaying the number of unread emails, I'd love to see the number of new emails, maybe also highlight the latter in the email list page.

  • Incoming emails would have new and unread state initially.
  • Both states would go away when opening an email for reading.
  • New state would go away when minimizing or closing the mail application

The cover could say e.g.

Mail
4 unread
2 new
