I have activated both mobile data and wlan from system settings - How to see, which one is actually working at the time and transferring the data?

I asking because the wlan indicator was not turned on, when I disabled mobile data from settings. Yet the browsing was working, but what data channel was used when the wlan signal strenght indicator was showing now radio.
