I really appreciate the peek from side gesture to check the various information while using an app. What disturbs me is the difference between the peek from side while in an app and the pull down while in a home screen. In home screen the peek-from-screen-edge gesture opens the ambiance switcher (or also some other stuff in the future releases) while the home screen just fades away. It could be very handy if at the same time as the home screen fades out it also moved down the same way as it does when you switch to an app showing the status area with clock and so on.

In addition the peeking behaviour could be extended to the launcher screen as well which could behave the very same as an opened app. (peek from the screen edge would fade out the launcher while fading in the home screen with the status area shown)

That way the clock and status icons could be checked with the very same gesture throughout the whole UI.
