There is lots of discussion to have N9 style clock, battery level, signal info on the screen when device is off, aka Glance screen (ref: )
Someone needs to locate the phone in pitch black. (ref: led-beacon-breathing-led )
eink is no good for this, unless it does have a backlight. (ref: e-paper-e-ink-toh )
Solution to both of these could be OLED toh.
This display could be active only when phone is facing down (or nothing in proximity), so one could easily select when to have this on/off. And of course if you don't need it, don't use that toh.
(hmm... my OH breakout PCB's have been shipped... maybe i'll do a quick prototype of this then. I'll post some pics)
