"Escape"-Sequence In Account Passphrases

Not directly a question, but maybe a hint - not sure if substantial or not...

Before upgrading to 1.1.1.27 I have had two working mail-accounts for different servers. After the upgrade one of them failed permanently. I deleted this account and tried to process a new setup, but failed again and again.

After a couple of tries and some mess with the logfile I became skeptical of the (once automatically generated) passphrase. Two characters were \" (combination of backslash and double quote). So I changed the passphrase to an alpahanumerical version, tried to setup the mail account again and had success on the first try. Working fine now.

So - I wonder if the backslash is working as a masking escape character? But why was it working with backslash until 1.0.8?
