An option to add app-specific shortcuts to the desktop/app drawer could vastly increase the convenience of use if there is a specific (hard-to-reach) task in an app that the user often uses. Apps could have an option to program shortcuts that can then be added to the desktop by the user.
One example would be a simple folder shortcut. My Dropbox saves files 10 folders deep and navigating to them every time is annoying. It could also be a shortcut to a script or batch job, which would allow the user to run even quite complicated things quickly.
This concept has been present in Android for long.
