Persistent Android Notifications

I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced problems using Android apps which utilise a 'persistent notification': that is, on an Android phone they would place an item in the notification list to (a) keep the app active, and (b) enable a quick return to it.

The app in my case is Moovit, a public transit app which I find pretty essential. During navigation, Moovit creates a 'return to Moovit' entry in my events list - great. Unfortunately my Jolla seems to misunderstand the intention and also flashes up with this message as at the top of my screen every few seconds for the duration of my journey, even if the app is live. It's pretty annoying and limits my ability to interact with the app menus which are at the top.

Has this been noticed with any other apps? I could not find any questions on this.
