Alarm clock: Alarm unintuitive

Switching off / snoozing the alarm is not intuitive and the result of the action depends on the current orientation of the Jolla (so I have to check this first and then to remember in which direction to swipe -- while still half asleep; without glasses I cannot read the description because it is too little in contrast -- so I have fully to remember).

One idea here was to turn the phone upside down to -- ? (Was it for snoozing or for switching off?) This requires quite a lot of action (in order that the Jolla does not fall off the board.)

Snoozing and switching off should be 2 very different actions, e.g.:

  • Double tap to switch off (in line with waking up the phone: I am awake)
  • Swiping in any direction to switch to snoozing (in line with "go away but stay [on home screen])

or

  • Pinch close to switch off (i.e. "minimize" snooze to 0)
  • Pinch open to snooze (i.e. extend my sleep)

(To not mix pinching and swiping as actions: Chances will be, that a pinch is recognized as swipe, when pinching still half asleep.)

You may even implement all type of actions and make them user selectable.

Edit 2014-03-25: For the Clock alarm, also swipe actions are possible (see HowTo: 50 ways to silence the Clock alarm). This may have been implemented during a later OS update. However, apart from having only "Snooze" as sensible option when swiping (closing the alarm screen without any influence on the alarm sound is not a sensible option), it does not solve the base problem, that the result depends on the handset orientation (the result of a top-bottom swipe differs from a bottom-top swipe), i.e. the actions are not distinctive.

Switching off Reasons

Dismissing (switching off) / snoozing the alarm is not intuitive and the result of the action depends on the current orientation of the Jolla (so I have to check this first and then to remember in which direction to swipe pull/swipe -- while still half asleep; without glasses I cannot read the description because it is too little in contrast -- so I have fully to remember).
