At the moment I can link contacts together although they still were saved separately (otherwise I couldn't unlink them). But when linking contacts all linked contacts are not shown in the contact search anymore... so thats more Joining in my opinion.
But what I want when LINKING is not (only) having the possibility to JOIN than also to LINK contacts together. Little example: I have mobile numbers from my uncle and aunty and also a number from their house which belongs to both. What I like to do/have now is this: I want an entry "uncle", "aunty", "fam. uncle & aunty" all linked together. BUT have each entry findable in the contact search. AND furthermore seeing linked entries when opening one of them, so I can decide to use the "fam. uncle & aunty" when selection just "uncle"
So my suggestion is this: offer JOIN as well as LINK and just handle them different in the UI - JOIN means no search result and no extra entry shown, LINK means findable in search and shown with separator when opening one of the linked entries.
