bugs: video format, microphone / audio quality

I run to the following bugs when uploading a short video clip to show it in web:

  • mp4 format didn't show. Not in any browser I tested. I thought it would be visible at least in the phone's own browser.
  • After convering the clip to mp4 (using h264 codec), it showed with good quality - but upside down
  • Sound quality was a lot worse than what I expect from a 399€ phone
  • Letting Youtube uploader convert it, it showed (with worse quality) in all other browsers but Sailfish Browser. It was started in that too, but the image freezed after playing 3/4 of the whole lenght

If you want to confirm / see yourself, clip is here in three formats (original mp4, h264 converted mp4, youtube automatic convert):

EDIT: More observations

  • Also some photos are shown upside down, this time when using an Android gallery app and looking at Sailfish camera shots from there. But... not always. Just 70% upside down. The most odd thing was to notice a shot taken right after another, camera angle kept the same: one right, the next one upside down??
  • Android gallery is able to show only the Jolla videos already saved to the Sailfish gallery. With self recorded videos: "This video can't be played". Could be related to the same mp4 format bug?

EDIT: I was about to write a new question after trying to stream a Jolla recorded video (first moved to my PC) to my Samsung via AllShare, but then I remembered this older question and I think the problem is in the format in this case too. The result:

Samsung AllShare shows the video with flickering line on the bottom, and cuts the whole playback so that it stutters very bad (I'd say fps is somewhere around 2-3). Audio streamed just fine. AllShare can stream all my other mp4 (.h264) videos with very good quality, but seems to have problems with Jolla's .h263 - Of course this can be seen as Samsung's lack of supporting older format, but why in the first place Jolla camera records with an outdated format?

I'd like to see Jolla updated to encode videos in at least .h264 or even newer format

Unsupported video format on Streaming or for streaming and html5 Browserbrowsers

I run into this problem when I uploaded a short Jolla video clip to show it in web: The mp4 format unconverted video wasn't played in by any of the browsers I tested (I thought it would be visible at least in the phone's own browser)Sailfish Browser, but no...)

    • Jolla Camera app recorded video records videos in ´mp4v/h.263´ format is ´mp4v/h.263´ (MPEG-4 Visual, default Matrix) (mp4 container, H263 format)
    • test: Jolla Browser doesn't play h.263 videos

EDIT: I was about to write a new question after trying to stream bad experience in streaming a Jolla recorded video (first moved to my PC) to my Samsung via AllShare, PC), but then I remembered this older question and I think the problem is in the recording format in this case too. The result:

Samsung AllShare shows the video with result: Streamed video had a flickering line on the bottom, bottom and cuts the whole playback so that it stutters very bad (I'd say fps is somewhere around 2-3). Audio stuttered playback, streamed just fine. AllShare can stream all my other mp4 (.h264) to a blueray player.

This prevents showing Jolla recorded videos on bigger screens (unless converted or using computer with very good quality, but seems to have problems with Jolla's .h263 - Of course this can be seen as Samsung's lack of supporting older format, but why in the first place Jolla camera records with an outdated format?h263 player)

I'd like to see Jolla Camera app updated to encode record videos in at least .h264 x264 (default on mp4 nowadays) or even newer format

    EDIT2: Still an issue, August 9th 2015

Unsupported video format for streaming and html5 browsers

I run into this problem when I uploaded a short Jolla video clip to show it in web: The unconverted video wasn't played by any of the browsers I tested (I thought it would be visible at least in the Sailfish Browser, but no...)

    • Jolla Camera app records videos in ´mp4v/h.263´ format (mp4 container, H263 format)
    • This format is quite outdated, and not supported by html5 browsers or common media players on for example TV's or BD-devices. This often prevents showing Jolla recorded videos on bigger screens, as converting or player supporting h.263 is needed to view them.

EDIT: I was about to write a new question after bad experience in streaming a Jolla recorded video (first moved to my PC), but then I remembered this older question and I think the problem is in the recording format in this case too. The result: Streamed video had a flickering line on the bottom and stuttered playback, streamed to a blueray player.

This prevents showing Jolla recorded videos on bigger screens (unless converted or using computer with h263 player)

I'd like to see Jolla Camera app updated to record videos in at least x264 (default on mp4 nowadays) or even newer format
