Zoom with 1 finger (1 hand to hold and do the gesture)

In few applications, it could be interesting to zoom with only one finger (web browser of course, but also gallery, ...). I mean zoom to different factors, not like it already works on web pages to feet text or images. The pitch-to-zoom works well too, but requires 1 hand to do the gesture while the other hold the phone.

There are already few gesture ideas:

  • swirl, like on the N900: https://together.jolla.com/question/1040/swirl-gestures-to-zoom-inout-in-browserlike-n900/
  • long press + move: https://together.jolla.com/question/1825/suggestion-one-handed-zoom-gesture-in-browser-gallery-etc/ . But I think that long press could be useful for other things (contextual menu, ...).
  • like made on Android (in my Google Nexus 7, Android 4.4): double tap, but keep the 2nd tap pressed/hold, and then move up to zoom (or down to un-zoom).

Edit: the 3rd point seems to be called "Double touch drag" on Android as man can see it here: http://developer.android.com/design/patterns/gestures.html

Zoom with 1 finger (1 hand to hold and do the gesture)

In few applications, it could be interesting to zoom with only one finger (web browser of course, but also gallery, ...). I mean mail, etc...). Here I'm talking about an adaptive zoom to different factorsfactor, not like it already works on web pages to feet text or images with a double-tap. The pinch-to-zoom works well too, but requires 1 hand to do the gesture while the other hold the phone.

There are already Here are few gesture ideas:ideas (some are already implemented in other devices):

  • swirl, like on the N900
  • long press + move. But I think that long press could be useful for other things (contextual menu, ...).
  • double touch drag as it seems to be called on recent Android version. The actions to do are: tap + long press + move up or down (or double tap, but keep the 2nd tap pressed/hold, and then move). It could zoom / unzoom depending if your are moving up or down.

Does somebody knows if there are restricted by patent or something like that?
