Can't set volume, it just announces it's on mute. Native music players won't even start the playback of music, can't hear anything even on phone calls.
Rebooting doesn't help. Haven't tried reverting to factory defaults yet.
Is my sound chip busted? I've been tweaking the volumes, trying to get a larger output, as suggested in Here. After a while of tweaking, I noticed I couldn't set the volume or hear a thing when someone called me.
Is there a way to test the functionality of my chipset?

Edit: Also, trying to use pactl
to change volumes ends up in an error: pa_context_connect() failed connection refused
