While I am enjoying Sailfish OS designs, I can't stand the mess of not unified Android app icons. (Some apps I have to use do not have a native version.) So I created a batch of icons that can make Android apps just "look" the same as stock. If anyone else has the same feeling for Android apps, feel free to substitute them.

Changing icon is quite easy and straightforward. Just substitute the new icon under /var/lib/apkd/ (only Android apps, native apps are in different locations) and restart home.

Here are some of the new icons. (Mostly the apps I'm using.) I created them under instruction of "Jolla Icon Story" And if you are in TMO, you can follow my thread.

I'm planning to make a package that can substitute in one click. Also if you want a new icon, you are welcomed to leave a comment here or in TMO.

It's different purpose.

For sure, but it gives many ideas.

I'm looking forward to this. More icons for social apps please; such as Instagram, Viber, and also for VLC for their ugly icons.

Thanks for sharing. It's a matter of personal taste, but I feel it's a bit of "rigid", for example, the "lens" in your instagram icon takes from stock camera icon, but it doesn't match with the background, also VLC's pattern doesn't match well with the background. Hope you don't mind. :)That's just my personal opinion, I'm not professional as well. Thanks again for sharing.

Hi. How exactly do you install these icons? When I go to var/local files I can't remove or replace android icons already in place. I have accessed through File Manager app and terminal but still unsure of how to replace icon. Thanks

@lsjmhar, you need to rename downloaded files as the same as the icons on /var/lib/apkd, then you can copy them via Terminal: devel-su cp apkd_launcher_*.png /var/lib/apkd

Brilliant work! An apk to install them automatically would be highly appreciated. Oh, and I'm using K-9 and OpenKeychain for encrypted emails, perhaps you could add them? Thanks!

Also here is a script that can shape a png icon into Sailfish OS style:
