When I thought about buying my Jolla phone a few months ago I thought about the possibilty of buying "outdated" hardware. Now I own one and have a completely different approach:
Besides just having a shiny new gadget, think about what makes hardware outdated? I think it's a matter of poor performance as os and apps are developing over time. But with Jolla I think it's the perfect example how a system can be maintained and not getting outdated.
Still all new versions of Sailfish OS preserve the power of the provided hardware. So give a big hand for the devs who seem to have this goal highly prioritized and do really well... instead of asking for new gear just like the same reflex, we are used to from Android or iOS devices.
A good(ish) idea, but not going to happen - at least in the near future. After the company has finished its regrouping and the hardware company (Jolla Mobile?) has started to get the gears moving, this might be possible. For now Jolla is focusing only on licensing their OS, which in my opinion is what they should, because that's why they started in the first place. So focus on the OS -> better user experience, more devices through licensing. :)

Being able to repeat success of crowd funded tablet would make the buzz again around them. Not to mention what a big marketing success it would be 'for free'...
Of course, they have to be able to deliver faster than they did it with the tablet because nobody is willing to wait about a year again...

molan ( 2015-08-27 22:04:27 +0200 )editWhen they announced the partnership with Intex, there was something said about bringing out new devices. Also someone from Jolla stated that they will announce something regarding European market after the current batch of Jolla phones has been sold out - so go tell your friends to buy one so we can have new ones sooner! :D
raketti ( 2015-08-27 22:12:15 +0200 )editGIve them a chance, they havent shipped the tablet yet. Once that dust settles and they get the intex phone done then maybe they can do another crowdfunding round for the next device. So maybe SLUSH 2015 at the earliest.
