Email app: cover shows number of unread mails in currently selected folder
If you have multiple folders in your email inbox, the cover of the email app will only show the number of unread emails in the folder that is currently selected in the email app. This is absolutely bad because if you are expecting new messages in multiple folders, the app gives you the false sense of having received no emails in any folders. So you have to go in and manually check all folders, which is a big hassle.
Here's my suggestion:
- User should be able to select which folders to sync, and they should be synced automatically
- App cover should show the total number of unread emails in all the synced folders of all accounts
Conversely, I only care about the Inbox unread count, messages arriving in other folders are relatively unimportant. People may also have lots of folders, so even querying all of them may not be a good default. This probably calls for a "check these folders for new messages" in account settings.
sp3000 ( 2013-12-25 16:28:01 +0200 )edit@sp3000 It is okay if it doesn't sync all the folders by default, but when I select some folders for syncing, I definitely want to see messages in them among the unread messages count. Having a setting for deciding it also OK.
Venemo ( 2013-12-25 17:53:33 +0200 )editNop, it only shows unread count for the 'inboxes' :) Same as the main view if you have more than one. This is by design not a bug, please try to distinguish suggestions from bugs when possible, it's easier to track. What's you suggestion ? you also refer folder subscriptions(there's already submitted suggestion for that).
VDVsx ( 2013-12-25 18:06:18 +0200 )edit@VDVsx No. If I switch to a different folder in the email app, the cover will show number of unread messages in that folder.
Venemo ( 2013-12-25 18:08:20 +0200 )edit@VDVsx I want the cover to show the total number of unread messages in all the folders that are synchronized with the device.
Venemo ( 2013-12-25 18:08:59 +0200 )edit@VDVsx The reson is this: if you are expecting new messages in multiple folders, the app gives you the false sense of having received no emails, even if you have received an email in one of the other folders.
Venemo ( 2013-12-25 18:10:03 +0200 )editAt the moment only Inbox is synced automaticly, when folder subscriptions are enabled that's expected IMO, can you edit the suggestion then ?

, even though it feels like a severe usability impairment (aka. bug) to me. If only the inbox is synced automatically, that is a bug too. Anyway, I hope it's in the correct format now. Thanks, other folders will be synced if you navigate inside them, syncing everything is a no no for most users(sync spam/trash... folder, user might have filters and redirects already in server side), IMO correct way is sync only inbox by default and have a option to add more folders to the default sync.
VDVsx ( 2013-12-25 18:24:42 +0200 )edit@VDVsx Sorry man, it seems that we are not talking about the same things here. I don't want all folders to be synced by default, but I want to be able to choose which folders to sync. And when I selected some, I want the unread count on the app cover to include all of them.
Venemo ( 2013-12-25 18:35:16 +0200 )editYup, that’s fine then, as a user I would expect the same :)
VDVsx ( 2013-12-25 21:05:43 +0200 )edit@VDVsx So, as much as I understand, the folders which I visit in the email app at least once became synchronized. I edited the question to show only the issue: that is the cover listing an incorrect number of unread mails.
Venemo ( 2013-12-25 22:02:17 +0200 )editYes, email app triggers a sync if you visit a empty folder in the client side, but they are not autosynced after that, you need to manual sync them, At the moment only inbox is automaticly synced by sync schedule.
VDVsx ( 2013-12-25 22:07:01 +0200 )edit@VDVsx Ok, thanks for clearing that up! I hope it will get better soon :)
Venemo ( 2013-12-26 00:44:00 +0200 )editWhen opening the email application, it should list each folder with the number of unread mails.
