2.0 UX failed in my eyes because it didn't bring any efficiency, rather on the opposite.
Beside the bugs (which of course is natural after a huge release) the UX is poorly thought through.
Its to the point I don't even want to pick up the phone from the table to do things with it, because its just too awkward and tedious to work the UI.
I don't care much if it looks nice, it has to be practical which it is not anymore. Its a step down from the previous versions.
I don't say that it can't be fixed. Probably some changes (I think all of the nuances has been reported here) will make things useful. But in its current state its nothing that I want in the Jolla.
My main gripes with the new design is:
- The missing pull down on home
- Locking is a two step procedure, awful.
- Screen lights up for IM and SMS (BUG!).
- Notification screen is clunky in general. The "See more" option instead of scrolling directly is a pain. Dismissing messages is also a two step procedure.
- The "four most usable apps row" actually CAN be reached through tapping on home screen....BUT not always, sometimes that feature is dead (BUG!).
- The whole way of choosing ambience/profile is just weird. I don't want that stuff there, it doesn't belong.
- No easy way to reach lock screen
- Small text and icons on home screen (it used to look nice). Even if the lock screen DOES have larger text is so badly accessible it doesn't help.
What surprises me the most is that things that could have ACTUALLY have helped usability and natural feeling (like app category icons instead of colored shapes) wasn't addressed at all. The biggest concern is that neither 1.0 or 2.0 have an easy way of reaching the most important system configurations (BT, WIFI, 3G and so on). Ok, its said to end up on the notifications screen later on, but I don't think it belongs there, too much stuff will end up there.
My wife got the update today. I suggested her to skip that because it is not user friendly.
I am also very surprised that so many doesn't question these things more than they do here. It gives me a feeling of fanboyism in the Jolla community. Lack of well-founded criticism will definitely not help the company mature SFOS to the point it becomes a big player.
Hei,
My trust in the Sailors got over my scepticism against about the new UI. I am glad I installed the upgrade! Thank you, Sailors!
LVPVS out.
LVPVS ( 2015-09-10 15:46:16 +0200 )editI agree on Your opinion. It is beautiful. I'm waiting excitingly for the next update especially because of the settings shortcuts in events view. No more letting the settings app open for a quick access to WLAN etc.

Mr.Jeebus ( 2015-09-10 16:04:48 +0200 )editYes, overall it's really great! Very fluent and more intuitive. One major issue I have is the missing feature to close an app by swiping down. Maybe this will be corrected, as I am not the only one missing this. But the focus should now be on functionality, not UI. A better calender, please! Integrated SIP VoIP, please!
Stefanix ( 2015-09-10 16:14:50 +0200 )edit@Stefanix: You cannot swipe down to close an app ? Even by selecting the option in Settings->System->Gestures->Quick app closing ?
