Hi,

I have an early phone from 2013 (JP-1301) and I am thinking about getting a new one. Where there some hardware updates along the way or will I get the exact same phone?

I am asking because currently I do have two hardware issues (shut downs and speaker) that I do not want to have again.

[Update] I know about the work arounds for the two issues. The point is, will I have the same issues with a new phone?

There have been some good ports to the nexus 5 lately. If you are up to it and want a change in hardware why not buy a second hand nexus 5 in a good condition and try the port?

@Aashish I don't think that's an option. You won't get the Android compatibility on the port and though the port is good, it is not quite perfect and still has some rough edges.

@FloR707 This might be a bit unconventional (I am not sure if such a post is allowed here), but if you are interested in buying one, would you like to consider buying mine? I have had it for about 10 months now and the phone is in excellent condition. Fortunately have not faced the battery or the speaker issue so far. My battery is in good condition and the phone easily lasts more than a day.

I also have 2 of the other halfs - black and aloe which I will include. Let me know if you are interested.

It is the exact same and I don't think that the shut downs are hardware issues, with the speaker have you tried tapping around where the speaker is? (it worked for me when i had no sounds)

Well, the shutdowns actually is a hardware problem :) and there are solution(s) to it, and my 2/2 Jollas confirm that!

About the speaker problem... I think you have some garbage in the speaker cone. I'll try to open and clean my Jolla, will let you know how it turned out :)

Stay tuned (with fingers crossed)...

I'm back! JP1301 is made for easy repairs, that's for sure! I have opened much more complex devices and this one nad no suprises at all, but steady hands are of course a requrement. I needed Torx T5, and some 1.5mm and 2,5mm wide flat head drivers to help pry various connectors and cover parts open.

I eventually found and opened the speaker module all the way to bare magnet, and there actually was magnetic garbage inside. I cleaned that up, gave the eapiece grid a good blast of pressurised air, and put it all back together. Works like charm!

If you're familiar with electronics, you can do it yourself, but mind the warranty. Mine had expired already :P

No pictures about the process, sorry... My table is too shiny to produce nothing else but black on white pictures :P...

I will try that thank you :)
