The process of crowdsourcing the next Jolla phone is progressing fine. The specifications seem to point to a phone in the super-mid sector. With Sailfish OS that hardware would still have pretty good performance. ...a bit like Lotus cars reach supercar speeds with relatively small engines. Think of the Jolla pirate ship as a racing catamaran and you're pretty close.

But some want a phone of a higher price with more performance. Simply put, they want a "flagship" product. Something to really brag about.

So the question is pretty simple. Should we crowdsource the J4 too?

Wait

We might first see how one crowdsourced project is brought to the final

This poll is simply posted too early

Why wait with asking? The actual crowdsourcing of the specs doesn't need to start now...

Good question actually. It's because I think asking in the current situation might give a wrong result in the end. After the first campaign is pushed to the end, people have more decent knowledge to base their vote on - so I'd just ask this question some time later. No offence ;)

If most people think that the specs in the J2 crowdfunding thread are enough then there is very litte meaning in going for a more powerful (and expensive) model right now. That's why I am asking.

...and the tablet was more crowdfunded than crowdsourced, imho.

Before you start something new it would be best to get your current J2 plans up and running. Apart from some specs that absolutely won't match the desired price range I don't see any progress in the other post. I think there is still a lot of discussion and planning needed to reach a point where we have something like final specs that are realistic. While I like the idea that you want to crowdsource a J2 I think it would be best to first finish that before even starting to design the next version.

There are quite a number of people that would like to have a smaller phone with more than toy performance. But the size of J1 is just right for more people. That is why I started the thread about J3. I've always imagined that J3 would follow the specs of the J2 although slightly adjusted to deal with the limitations imposed by a smaller physical size. ...and in my head the two phones would be presented together. It would be quite easy to do so as the hardware would be very similar. ...but the J3 only serves as an example here.

Right now there seems to be two branches to the J2 development. The bigger branch leads to the mid-performance market and a smaller branch that wants a high-end phone. In my mind the bigger branch is leading towards J2 right now. The specs that the majority wants is quite realistic, even at that price.

So what about the high-end branch? Well, I didn't want to dictate what to do with it so I asked.

The hard part now is to figure out what Wait means.

What's the point in this stuff? What do you actually hope to achieve with this? Has the other thread even achieved anything at all? Please stop posting these, this site is already cluttered enough as it is and certainly doesn't need any more space completely wasted on pointless speculation/wishlists. There are other sites for that, and none of them have the https://together.jolla.com address.

A simple No, I think J2 will be good enough for me would have been enough...

My reason for doing this? Let's say I'm testing all alternatives to be sure of what people want. Yes, I could have posted yet another wishlist, one that reflected exactly what I wanted. But the thread about J2 is an accumulation of what people on this forum wants. I'm just a curator.

No

I think the J2 will be good enough for me.
So I add my suggestions to the J2 crowdsourcing page instead.

Yes

I want something better than the J2.
And I'm prepared to tell you what I want.

No. I am already crowdsourcing J2 as a flagship.
