If the Pulley menu has more than 4 (or maybe 5) options, the functionality that it provides is no longer the same (one can not pull with one gesture more than 4 or 5 options, if the gesture starts from the middle of the screen). The Jolla apps that I use do not have more than 4 options, but there are other apps (like Bluewhale, the Evernote client) that have 8 options in the Pulley menu (I can see all 8 options if I start the gesture from the top of the screen, which is not the idea, right?). Maybe it would be possible to make a cascade sistem. If you have more than 4 options, the fourth one should be called "other" and when you choose that one you somehow get the other options to choose from (either on the screen or something else).

I disagree. While it's usually annoying to have more than four options, there may be use-cases where this makes sense, e.g. for showing path breadcrumbs for navigation. Bad UI design should be fixed by the particular apps, IMHO, not a fix enforced by the OS.

Maybe the app designer does not have any other way in the current UI to implement more options except the pulley menu? If there are other ways, then I agree with you.

@pycage +1 :)

I think if you pull out of the screen from bottom the whole pulley menu should just appear as if you've pulled over the topmost item. Currently the option highlighted is chosen if you go out of bounds

If you drag out of screen (or near out of screen), it should just slide down completely and lock, so that you can press the option you want. ( @raa70: unsure if you mean the same thing)

Limit to 4 items sounds reasonable, developers need to adapt, the pulley is for quick gestures and not for general settings. Please, use the phone with one hand and try to pull for a fifth item!

Full featured file manager, for example, could easily have both top and bottompulleys populated with more than 5 commands, so pulley as it is now is too limiting. I'd like to see jolla to improve pulley menu by implementing sub-pulleys. I think two menu implementations are enough for an OS - pushmenu and pulley, but both need improvement.

With what? select 5 times? rethink it instead please.

I don't get the sarcasm, do you think 8-10 commands for an app is max, here's from the top of my head, a quick list with commands dedicated file manager could have:

2-4 sorting options, ascending/descenting, select all, select inverse, deselect, copy path, open terminal here, favourites, copy, cut, paste, rename, delete, properties, view as text, search and/or filter, Show/hide hidden files, Show thumbnails, Settings, Share...

This is a phone not a desktop! Sorting options can go to a settings page, select can have (as already seen) additional options within a selection-mode leaves select, search and settings for the top-level pulley, be reasonable, most of the things you list are context items for single files or options after selection or fit to a settings page. So it is not select 5 times but sort 10 times (just for the sarcasm).

Suggestion: if there are too many items (maybe more than 6), only show first 5 entries and let the 6th be a "more" entry. When selecting more and waiting for about half a second, the other entries (2 or more) could be shown instead of the first 5 entries. This could be repeated for every new 5 items (allthough this would be awkward of course). But maybe this works for some 8-9 items and works better than this long pulley menu.

I like it as it is now. But we could have a configuratio orption where we can put a limit on the items, like 3 items + more.
