It seems that app drawer is not accessible from lock screen, if device lock code is enabled.

However, if there is a lock delay, I can access the app drawer from lock screen. If I lock the device using power key double click, I can't access the menu.

I see no reason why this should be the case, although this seems to be intentional. Could you please fix this in next possible update?

EDIT: Still the case with 2.0.4.

Old question:

I like very much the new UI, but the lockscreen is one of the things I would like to see improved very much.

The rest of the system (events, apps, app switcher) has the three directions of swipe actions available:

  • from left -- events (configurable)
  • from bottom -- app drawer
  • from right -- app switcher

Lock screen now (1.1.9.28) has two of those - from left and from right. For the completeness of the UI - and I try to do this all the time myslef - I would expect to be able to open the app drawer directly from the lock screen.

I don't know or can't imagine how this would change behavior on tablet for I don't have mine yet, so I'll just let the luckier ones comment on this.

Thanks!

Yes, installed 2.0 ten minutes ago, playing with the UI now. Opened together. to write about exactly the same thing.

There actually IS a swipe up gesture to open the app drawer, but it only works when starting from the very bottom of the screen.

What is the reason for this? Maybe it should be available anywhere on the screen?

Oh well. It turned out that the swipe from bottom guesture is not enabled if device lock code is enabled. Editing question. Also removing the early access tag :P

it is because there is a lock code.. there is a lot of confusion going on in other posts.. Read those posts and reply to them it would be useful .. and search for the missed up features to upvote to repplace these cranky new featurs to be removed and to bring back the good'ol Sailfish OS

I don't want people opening up apps (if there's a situation of that sort) if I have the phone locked - it's locked for a reason! There's the lock screen pulley menu where one can have a few selected apps which can be open and then enter the lock code. So, no thanks, I like the way it is now. :)

thats why u have the pulley menu in the lockscreen where u can add the favorite apps u want to..

Enabling device lock feature != having the device lock activated. The swipe from bottom to access app drawer works as long as device lock is not activated.

Using double power key press -> activates device lock without delay -> app drawer no longer accessible until the lock code is entered.

Just allowing the device to idle / blank -> starts device lock timer (delay specified in settings) -> if the device is used before that timer triggers, the timeout is canceled and app drawer is still accessible (AFAIK this is as expected. You can choose "No delay" in device lock settings to lock immediately when device is deemed inactive / display is blanked).

Thanks for detailed explanation. I accept this reasoning :)

Hi, sorry but I don't agree with the explaination. When in lock screen and I turn on the device, I usually swype left or right and if required I enter pin otherwise I enter the home screen. I can't do that by swyping from bottom because if locked I get nothing otherwise the app drawer. There isn't an icon indicating the locked device so swyping from bottom is frustrating because I don't know if it's not responding because I'm wrong during swyping or because it's locked. The expected behaviuor should be to ask for pin code when swyping from bottom too.

Hope I've been clear.

@Luca You have a point in there - I filed internal ticket about this

[I have a feeling that significant enough portion of user population that uses device lock has also enabled immediate locking and/or quick access to camera - which kind of hide/mitigate this asymmetry in behavior...]

Thank you for picking this up and considering the behavior again!

@spiiroin I don't use quick camera access, that's why I have the described behaviour. Thanks for considering it.
