How to get back the Sailfish OS 1.0 UI
The reasons are irrelevant (I simply dislike about everything about 2.0 UI - I came from SFOS 1.0, not android or iphone).
The question:
Is there a way to get a 1.0 UI back without downgrading back to 1.1.7?
If there is one, how to do it? Would it be enough to downgrade the lipstick?
If there is none, I know what to do, but then I'd like to know the reasons why is that impossible.
(I consider myself a pretty advanced user of console-based unix-like systems.)
I'm just curious... Isn't there anything you like in SailfishOS 2.0?
vattuvarg ( 2015-09-27 00:07:25 +0200 )edit@vattuvarg All the non-UI progress. And there actually is one thing in the UI I admire - the perfectly fluent motion without any lags.
To elaborate a bit more about my reasons: The sailfish OS is far from done, in terms of features I would naturally expect or like. That's ok and I like how the things are implemented, fixed and improved. This means I need to update, which is all allright. BUT now, some new UI came bundled with upgades, which slows me down, take away ambiences and put new ones instead (of which I can't pick a single one which won't have dominant colors I dislike in my interface), make things IMHO uglier (remember the old pulley menu? Compare with contemporary thick border line.), make former vertical UI horizon-rtical and so on.
The old UI just needed a little bit of love, most of which could be fixed by avilable patches. (Usage of lockscreen for upcoming calendar events, data/wlan/bt settings in events screen - those for me.)
I really admire all the work done here, but the new UI is a step back for me. And that's why I want to get rid of just it, not the whole 2.0 and next updates. (If this is impossible however, I'll stick to the 1.1.7 forever and go yell and cry to a pillow. (And throw jolla and buy a real cellphone, not a "smart" one.))
Quawerty ( 2015-09-27 00:26:15 +0200 )edit@Quawerty In theory this should be possible, since the UI is written in QML. You just need the 1.0 homescreen files (and the files for old buttons and pulleys and stuff), then it's pretty much copying and pasting the right files to the right places. Of cource you can end up bricking your device, so before any modifications remember to backup EVERYTHING. Or just try downgrading Lipstick, I don't know :P
jollailija ( 2015-09-27 09:39:37 +0200 )editthat's why i haven't upgraded yet. it is so ugly and slows down. i e.g. like the eventsview from anywhere (with patchmanager patches). there are more things i'd just miss... so i'm waiting a while :)
NuklearFart ( 2015-09-27 10:40:28 +0200 )editMy ambiences were left intact by the upgrade to 1.1.9.28. (There seems to be a bug report about that, though.) But I miss the slighly 3D feel of the gliding background. I lamented not being able to close an app by swiping down but another thread told me there was a setting for that. Not sure if I like the new UX or not, but I am giving it a chance for now. Maybe I'll be longing for the first version too? Only time will tell.
...but the new UX is more fluent and the accordion-effect is gone from the browser. So there are upsides to the upgrade too.
Thank you for answering my slightly OT question.
