Hello!

  • I have tried so many fixes that I don't know what to do any more but to report this here and see what comes out of it.

Running Sailfish 1.1.9.28 (SailfishOS 2.0)

  • The story in a nutshell;

  • I got the Jolla device recently, condition was pretty much brand new.

  • Reset to factory defaults and installed every Sailfish update Before even starting to use the device
  • Installed Android Support With WLAN+LTE(4G) connections enabled and active.

  • So, what I am facing here is that all Sailfish native apps are working fine and they have network connection working without any problems.
  • When ever I use any Android apps, they lose network connectability radomly for some reason and nothing helps to fix it, it just comes back at some point.

    1. Reboot / Restart device Does Not help
    2. Restart Network Conections Does Not help
    3. Terminal / App solutions on-site Does not help
    4. Fully remove Android Support/Alien-Dalvik and Clean istall it Does Not help
    5. Have spent several days researching and testing different solutions Does Not help
  • As you see, I've tried quite the various tips and tricks already so running out of options. Any Permanent, and I mean Permanent, fix would be great because the phone is now in use on daily basis and this problem is rendering it useless pretty much since there is no native apps for certain things that I use on daily basis.

I have had one occasion that android apps have lost network. I had been out and was sharing via jolla hotspot to another device and when I got home when disabled sharing wlan was left on and connected automatically to my home wifi. After this noticed that none of android applications had network. Turned of wifi and connections were back up. Haven't tested yet can this be reproduced.

I loose connectivity when my jolla is fresh started or simething caused mobile network to restart. afterwards i loose the connection for the android apps. it works after connecting to wlan and then back to mibile ( didn't test it enough to be 100% sure). sometimea it fixed itself after a wgile, sometimes helped restarting device, network or android support or all of them together. it's a kind of magic, so I can't tell for sure what does the work and in which cases... :(

The problem I am having is more like the "Alien Dalvik" - as in Android Support - loses network connectivity completely (Wifi + Mobile, literally both). Yet the Sailfish applications work fine and can access the internet, while every Android application are in the type of situation, where the internet would be unplugged. - Restarting any services / supports / device does not resolve the issue. Internet connectivity just "magically" starts working again for Android apps, while it works for Sailfish all the time.

I got an issue with one android app, "lichess" is working perfectly with wifi, but when i'm one data connection, the internet connection doesn't work.

Well, so far only temporary fix I have found working most of the time is to use APK called Terminal Emulator for Android, which can be found via Aptoide.

  • Install Terminal Emulator for Android
  • Go to Preferences
  • Look for "Initial Command"
  • input the following; ping -i 60 8.8.8.8
  • Leave the terminal open by swiping from either edge, not actually closing it.
  • Every time you open the Terminal, it automatically inputs that command in the future

Basically pings Google DNS every 60sec (helps to keep connection open/active), drains very minimalistic amount of battery but at the least have had my Android apps working and connected to the internet. Next time you need it, you just open the Terminal Emulator for Android, swipe left/right and go on business as usual because it automatically now starts the "ping" command on each launch.

For saving users sessions and improve overbooking ratio on the network cell, operators interrupt sessions, when the phone try to send packest after interruption of session, the cell might park the request: the result is a time out and an end of the session which need to be fully reinstantiate. This process is quite recent, and widely spread among telcos. It impact all os (face it often on xperia z3 and lollipop as well as on jolla). In that case the best is to leave the network and come back throught the plane mode on/off

If you change to 'Prefer 3G' maybe you can see all problems are solved. I found Android apps could not connect to 4G properly.

Hi @Maxwelldon,

do you have any specific Android app that you can mention suffers this problem? Or is it all Android apps indiscriminately?

We notice this problem mostly with Facebook Messenger, but not much with other apps. Can you name a few so we can test more?

Thanks Stezz

Amazon App Store. It then refuses to download apps, saying there is no connection.

Threema messenger. A friend (he also has a jolla) and I use it regularly. Since 1.1.9.28 sometimes messages are not send or received although the phone is connected to wifi and I can browse. The same for him. Friends with IOS or Windows Phone do not have these issues.

It sucks, mobile connectivity was good before 1.1.9, but WLAN was poor. After 1.1.9 WLAN is better and mobile is poor. Could it so difficult to route network to dalvik?

Edit: Under 2.0.0.10 it´s even poor on mobile and WLAN.
