When using the Jolla tablet in a dark room the screen is too bright.

Would it be possible to get the screen more dimmed?

The brightness of the screen is on a good level when the screen fades out right before it is turned of automatically.

Having this same issue with the JollaC.

In the photo it's possible to see the difference between screen brightness for Jolla tablet, Jolla phone and Nexus 7 tablet. All the screens are set to the lowest possible brightness.

I kind of agree. I would be nice if the settings are "extended" to allow to set brightness lower. Current minimum level hurts the eyes in a dark environnment.

I'm basically running my screen on the lowest brightness all the time. Would it be possible to adjust the scale for brightness in the upcoming update? Other then this the tablet works great! Keep up the good work!

Yes, even on the lowest, with automatic adjust off, it is bright enough to hurt if the room is not well lit. One of my pet peeves with displays today, the brightness seems to have the scale adjusted for display-stands at a show.

Thanks for finally reporting about this very important aspect for which reason I love my Amazon tablet that has cost only a fraction of Jolla's proposed price, Amazon does imagine the users of their tablet reading in low light in bed or out camping.

Jolla has changed the display and yet they failed to secure readability and eye friendliness upon release. Hope there is room for a software fix. Does Jolla actually use their product outside press conferences and development room?

I assume this issue is still open so I'll report one failed attemp. Tried to adjust it through terminal. /sys/class/leds is empty. /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/ has brightness setting, but even setting it to 0 has the same effect as setting the slider to far left. I'll try other settings later, and post as answer if I'll manage to find a solution.

I can't believe that this issue still isn't resolved. It should be really easy to do and this problem is crippeling the tablet pretty badly. I like to read some stuff for university on the tablet (it's the main reason I got it) and at night, before sleeping, it is nearly unbearable. The fact that my girlfriend usually tries to find some sleep while I'm reading makes things even worse.

I can litteraly use the tablet as a flashlight to get to the toilet safely - on lowest brightness level of course.

I know that there aren't many Jolla Tablets out there and that supporting it isn't quite cost effective, but the tablet was a wild enough ride to begin with and I'm not asking for much, but for a bare minimum. The mere fact that an aptoide app can reduce the problem, at least for android apps, sounds like a bad joke to me.

Please fix this, as there is really not a single reason not to.

i second your experience to 100%. and it makes it hard to argue to your gf why NOT to sell the jTablet agajn ;). @jolla: is this simple setting really so difficult? if yes, please tell us why, otherwise please fix it AND ALSO REDUCE THE MIN BRIGHTNESS ON THE JOLLA PHONE thanks!

Half-solution: Get Screen Adjuster from Aptoide, set it on and reduce brightness to 15 %. Unfortunately it only dims Android apps, but it's better than nothing.

ps. Half-sorry for necromancery. For my defence I'm pretty sure this issue will resurface soon as more people will receive their tablets...

@kimmoli, what about this comment you made in another post with regard to adjusting brightness on Jolla phone; could that possibly apply to the tablet as well?

That is not working. i have tested it earlier, and also by @Moshroom in above comments.

iirc the fade-out is done by "adding" black, which is what the tint overlay does, when you choose black as color. (I shared coderus tool, because it is usable than my command-line "dimmy")

Tint Overlay kind of works, but it is not completely stable. The screen flickers sometimes and at times the tint turns off.

Regarding the Jolla tablet (and Youyota tablet):

As pointed out by a TMO usera kernel update to v4.12 possibly could solve the backlight control of the display: http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/18017.html
