hi all, since the last update my camera is not working anymore. I can start the app, change settings and camera (front/back). But pushing the "trigger" button just focuses the picture without any photo being saved. I tried pushing long and short, I made several restarts of the phone and it didn't help. Maybe every 50th time it makes a picture and saves it. So it seems very strange. Since the update I was able to take just one or two photos.

Does anybody have the same issue? Can I do something about it?

Thanks and BR!

update: since some days my phone is practically unusable. In addition to the camera that isn´t working I cant start developer mode, can´t make a backup, when writing text the keyboard disappears after each word for about 10-15 seconds (very annoying!), when I want to save an appointment to the calendar it works maybe every 5th time (I can enter all data but after saving it there is nothing in the calendar), I can´t see sms I received or sent and my phone sends randomly old smses at least to my wife (hopefully not to all my contacts). Whatsapp is not working anymore. larm clock works only randomly. Probably there are more things too. I´m not a pro, just a "normal user" :) I have lighthouse and can see that there is almost 50% free memory, cpu is 5-10% in use. Disk space I have occupied 10.8 GB / 13.7GB (is this too much?).

I had the phone plugged in during all nights, yesterday morning I had to login to my jolla-account again, so was there suppost to habben something at 3h in the night? (btrfs-balancer?)

Is there a possibility to make a backup to a PC? In a way I could start the backup from the PC because the phones backup is not working anymore?

thanks everybody! I am thinking about buying another phone. Because e.g. the calendar I have to be able to use.

First thing I would try; open Terminal and type in pkcon install jolla-camera <enter> - it may be best to reboot the device after the above commands. pkcon will simply reinstall the camera package and may just sort your problem,</enter>

thanks!

somethng seems to be wrong now with my phone: I can´t start the developer mode. It takes some minutes starting, then a message comes "there is a problem with the store / installing developer mode" (german: "Problem mit Store / jolla-developer-mode konnte nicht installiert werden"). That´s new for me too. Before the update I remember that I was able to activate developer mode.

Do you have an idea what I could do?

Oh, that's not good. The last time I experienced that, I ended up resetting the device. There shouldn't be any correlation between your current problem and the commands given earlier to sort the phone app.

I take it that you disabled Developer Mode after reinstalling the camera?

Take a look at these couple of links about dev mode not working/starting; https://together.jolla.com/question/89476/cannot-re-enable-developer-mode/ - https://together.jolla.com/question/111273/cannot-enable-developer-mode/

You are clearly running out of btrfs metadata space. You have to rebalance it but it is quite complicated without a terminal. Your options are to clear as much space as possible and hope that you will be able to install developer mode and then execute btrfs-balancer or wait until next Tuesday (3:00am), plug your Jolla into your wallcharger and let it charge over night and your Jolla should do the job by itself.

Edit: For more infos regarding btrfs: https://together.jolla.com/question/30822/root-and-home-disks-full-and-causing-various-problems/

thanks Markkyboy and Alex! I will check this on the weekend. I am just a normal user, haven´t got much coding experience. But if I make it to start the developer mode I will try to install the camera again.

I couldn´t yet reinstall the camera because I could´t start developer mode at all yesterday.

Alex: so I try to clear as much space from my phone (e.g. delete photos/music)?

I will update you when I had the time to sit down with my phone.

deleting stuff via file browser (pictures, videos and android stuff) and then updateing to Sailfish 2.0 seamed to help. How can I close this question? :)

Update: backup-function still isn't working on the phone. What could be the problem?

Great that you revived you Jolla. But you really should activate developer mode and set up ssh so that you are able to revive your Jolla easy the next time. You also will be able to transfer data over WLAN on your Jolla via WinSCP. :)

You also should try to not save more than 9,5 Gb on the internal memory so that you won't get into trouble again.

OK! I'll try this. Do you have some more detailed instructions? Should I do the btrfs balance despite of the update? For this I need instructions too. Developer mode I could start now.

And is there a way that camera saves pictures/videos directly to the SD-card? (the camera is working again! :) )

BUT I just realised that the backup-function on the phone still isn't working. So probably there still is a problem?

ttommila ( 2015-11-01 21:30:48 +0300 )edit

Did you already read my hyperlinked links for instructions? :)

No you are not able to save directly to the SD card at the moment.

Please install developer mode and then I can give you some instructions to determine the problem with your backup.

Alex ( 2015-11-01 21:54:55 +0300 )edit

Yes, I read them. But it's not so clear for me as a rookie :) Developer mode I could install and start. Then I type "btrfs-balancer" and enter? Thanks for your help and patience!

ttommila ( 2015-11-01 22:42:11 +0300 )edit

Here are some more detailed instructions for WinSCP: PDF document (read just from 6 to 8; source).

Yes, basically that's the procedure. You should balance your Jolla ~once a month or if you are noticing some strange behaviour and problems with read/write on the Jolla by executing btrfs-balancer in the terminal and it will balance your filesystem. :)

So you still have problems with backing up? How many pictures are stored on your Jolla? What do you get while trying to do a backup - any error message or strange behaviour (like endless spinning circle)?
