I like SailfishOS as an open alternative mobile OS. I join since the beginning of N900, had a N9 too, one of the first one and early adopter. I´m free to give my feedback and improvement suggestions at all.

But since UI 2, there are some changings that i don´t like. (Button style, Pully style and behavier, removing swipe to lock, etc...) I guess i´m not the only one.

Ok, the developer may think "Its better, easier, obsolete, more modern or something". Could be, but not in all cases!

You can see the requests for change a lot of things. These changes are already implemented by patches from the community. There is not a lot of time to integrate for you to make a really greate experience for all users.

Not everybody is using patches causing risks, activate forein sorces or going to the Warehouse. But they want the option to change the UI as the want.

My appeal use the force and integrate the patches as option. Give the power to the users!

edit: It´s sad that great idears like Low Power Mode (LPM) are not comming to all as option, this features are more than eastereggs.

Pls vote up if you agree!

Edit: @mlatu Here can you find some one: Patches available at Open Repos

edit: Update to 2.0.1.7 nothing changed - it is annoying to disable all patches before updating, please integrate it on 2.0.2.x

voted up man, I cannot do without patches ever since on my N9, and having it integrated is a marvelous request.

Although this would be great, the problem is, the way it is now it is clear to everybody that the ppl who officialy make sfos have nothing to do with the patches. Dont ask them for support when suddenly your pulleys jump off their rails and your swipes are on fire. Ask the guys who wrote those patches you installed.

:-/

I would rather imagine SFOS going full OSS and then something like this happening.

Fully agree. Regretfully that such an impressive user interface such as SFOS 1.0 got not further perfected or blessed with configurable options before the world could have a true taste of it.

Instead it got changed ("refreshed" as it is being called) to match an Android like user experience.

The result is too much of "wannabe Android" and too little "want to improve over Android" (security and app restrictions come to mind )

IMO - > Sailfish: it should be the best platform to run your favorite Android apps on and more. NOT a convenient Android like interface and worse security options and performance.

How to explain the current turn around from SF 1.0 and improvements that are 1 step forward 2 steps back (yes we have now more useful events but those could have been part of SFOS 1.0, just an evolution): certainly what happened is that Jolla has met with a couple of arrogant potential hardware partners in China and India that have forwarded them a condition to change and "improve" this feature or that option.

Jolla, eager for claiming its first full SFOS license partnership, rushed to comply and has pushed out an updated UI including including the 3rd party imposed changes all while introducing new inconsistencies that will need the exact same attention and polish as SFOS 1.0 and this without any true options to revert to the old situation.

So doing ignoring its fans and early supporters that are used to SFOS 1.0 interface and know how to use it efficiently.

Still there is hope because Jolla has announced SFOS 2.0 as "more personalization", so I truly have my hopes up that personalization is yet to come.

More personalization There are now even more options enabling you to personalize the phone according to your needs. One example is defining the behavior of the top edge swipe gesture: you can choose to keep it as an ambience switcher or change it to close apps directly with one top swipe (like before).

Sailfish 2.1 : Like before ... and more!

Where to get those patches btw? I would like to check if anyone wrote one to assign edge-swipes on home to the caroussel-advance action, unassign vertical inscreen swipes in home view, reinstate cover-gestures and finally added scroll up to lockscreen. The only four changes i would ever be interested in.

It would be a great and unique idea to have a 'patch store' section in the app store. This would contain patches that have gone through some form of quality control.

This!

But I would be happy with a very basic Patchmanager (PM) support. Nothing fancy, the only thing needed is telling PM that a system update is about to start. That would allow PM to unapply all patches before the update. Forgetting to unapply patches is the only risky thing about them and we have hordes of users doing that on every update.

I think allowing Patchmanager to Harbour/Store would be enough. Or a settings sub-page that warns the user before giving access and downloading Patchmanager like at Developer mode.

I fully support your request as I already wrote in several threads that more options in the settings is an absolute must have feature.

I would say why not look at the patches and implement the best most used directly within the settings? For example the events view patches....seem that they made such an impact that now in SFOS 2 you can get a similar feature still different but usable. Just look at all patches there are so many good ideas...like remorse accept button...why should I wait 5 secs to delete a spam mail when I can directly click on accept....

You are right about the 5 secs waiting but remember that it also works to directly carry out the deleting function if you exit the window you are currently using or something, plus remorse timeout controls is available as a patch on openrepos where you can set the delay time right in your settings app

DameCENO ( 2015-11-06 17:51:34 +0200 )edit

@DameCENO Unfortunately with the newest SFOS version some patces are not compatible at the moment, for example the remorse accept button, patch gets installed but is not active in any way. And this is exactly the problem with patches, whenever the developer has lost interest or the changes from system side are too big the patches stop working but a sailfish settings option will be maintained by Jolla and therefore still work or replaced with a new functionality.

PatsJolla ( 2015-11-12 15:17:13 +0200 )edit

@PatsJolla the developers on openrepos don't just do patches to be forgotten, am sure that will be rectified soon although I do not use that particular patch. In all we are all in agreement, that this request should be approved by Jolla

"There is not a lot of time to integrate" - but a lot of responsibility.

The power is that you can write and apply patch. When someone doing that for you - this is not a power, this is dependence and infantilism.

Be a men, guys, DIY :)

I think you missunderstood someting. I want that the developers (Jolla) implement the goog idears behind the patches and give the normal user the choice he never know where to get it

@kandelabra I do not even understand what you are trying to say, do you use patches? I bet you don't. We that do use them a lot, we want Jolla INC to officially include patchmanager and its related patches in the store or as a sub-menu in the settings app warning the user about the risk potentially involved with them and letting the user choose to use them, and best still tell the system or patchmanger to revert all patches to normal before os updates which is the only risk associated with patches. Is that clear enough?

DameCENO ( 2015-11-10 13:40:18 +0200 )edit

@DameCENO, you lose, your bet is mine :) I had surfed whole Patch section on Warehouse, and I have about dozen patches installed now. Before SF 2.0 there were even more :)

Guys, there is already quite wide-opened gate to the world of freedom and dangers - untrusted software and developer mode.

I think that really cool patches should be added to SFOS as basic features not as options - and they are now.

I think that adding polished Warehouse to Jolla official store would be good compromise between freedom, security and responsibility. Yes, I believe that responsibility should be one the basics of Jolla eco-system.

kandelabra ( 2015-11-10 21:19:21 +0200 )edit

@kandelabra As you can see we all want the same thing, but have different ways of getting there. You should have gotten the big picture by now about some good patches not migrating to SF 2.0 (yet) that Jolla has very little interest in integrating those features to SFOS, and as such they should let us have that freedom of having those features available to us more easily. By the way, hope you do check openrepos on a periodic basis as those previously disabled cool patches after 2.0 are being updated to suit the new system. Cheers.

DameCENO ( 2015-11-11 17:21:11 +0200 )edit

@DameCENO, isn't adding Warehouse to official Jolla Store enough?
