A week with Saimaa: a bit disappointed [not a question]

Hello, first time I wrote here, and not a native english writer, so I apologize. ;-) I've update to Sailfish 2.0 in late, skipping the previous, so it's only one week I use the new release. Many improvements but some (sad) regression. Now unlock need a doubletap and a swipe. And even locking need a swipe and a tap. I use jolla mainly as phone and for work, so I'm interested on fast use. And one reason to buy the jolla, was that I can use it with only one hand. I think the new user interface is worse for my use. No more application on the home screen: so I must swipe for the menu. No more pulley menu on the main screen, so to silence the phone I have to swipe, tap, swipe, etc.

If I can suggest something: - one row of applications on the bottom of the homescreen is like a shortcut: useful. - the pulley menu on the homescreen with action like: silenced/offline/switch-to-wifi/change-ambience/shutdown is fast. - a search box (from pulley menu) on phone application and on messages application, can be useful.

Good thing: - only one "desktop" is ok: less swipe around. - no more edge-swipe: easier for new users. - notifications on the sides: now are in the right place. - ambience selectione use less space, but the best way to change ambience is to change TOH ;-) - better setting panel, well done.

Thank you and keep it simple. Ahoy!

Following all the discussions up to the release of Sailfish 2.0 (ie. 1.1.9.28) I was cautious and a bit apprehensive when I made the update. At first I was somewhat disappointed, but after having used it for some time it has impressed me, and by now I feel most of the changes has been for the better.

It is true some things has become a bit more cumbersome, such as having to swipe to get access to the four most used apps, but many things has become smarter. For me the media player controls on the lock screen is simply genius!

Even though some of the changes undoubtedly has been introduced to make Sailfish usable on the tablet, and it can be discussed if it is a bonus for the phone, I feel that the UI has become cleaner, smoother and nicer, and I expect the coming releases to make it even more so.

Perhaps another way of doing things can help speed up some actions.

E.g. Lowering volume or silencing the phone: Press Power button, then Hold Volume Down.

Locking the phone: Press Power button once to lock.

Unlocking the Phone also required a swipe action to get to the Home screen in SF1 if I recall correctly. It's just that the swipe is now sideways instead of up. Also, you can start to swipe the Lock screen away, as soon as the display starts to light up. This saves a bit of time.

Anyway, you can use a quick double press on the Power button to skip the lock screen.

I hope this helps.

1) Restoring quick access (I mean one-gesture) to lockscreen and its associated pulley menu (extended to 7 items) shouldn't be a big challenge for OS development team.

2) Generally speaking, some patches deserve more consideration and endorsement from OS designers.
