When screen brightness is turned on low level, screen is still too bright. This came out in night time outside when i was checking phone and i really needed my dark vision constantly. So... checking the mail --> BRIGHT --> dark blindness = situation screwed.

Btw. competitors phone's has same issue.

When brightness is on low level also screen should be dark.

I agree that it's too bright. Not that I suffer from loss of night vision, but I have set my Jolla to the lowest brightness level and it's perfectly usable even in daylight.

At night , lowest brightness text black on white background is bearable to read for me, but a flexible lower minimum brightness would be more than welcome. On my Symbian I can adjust it by single 1% increments (Andromenu) which is also an advantage over the current 5 step system Sailfish offers.

Note that with "Adjust automatically" enabled, the lowest brightness level goes darker in a dark environment. However even with that the display is bright enough for text to be readable in a lit room (you have to cover the ambient light sensor to test this).

This question seems to be a duplicate for https://together.jolla.com/question/1171/reduce-display-brightness/.

If so, we can close this one and every voter should vote for the other question as well.

You can try to create a dark red ambiance, red colour helps to keep low light vision.

Quote from wikipedia article on night vision

In biological night vision, molecules of rhodopsin in the rods of the eye undergo a change in shape as they absorb light. Rhodopsin is the chemical that allows night-vision, and is extremely sensitive to light. Exposed to a spectrum of light, the pigment immediately bleaches, and it takes about 30 minutes to regenerate fully, but most of the adaptation occurs within the first five or ten minutes in the dark. Rhodopsin in the human rods is less sensitive to the longer red wavelengths of light, so traditionally many people use red light to help preserve night vision as it only slowly depletes the eye's rhodopsin stores in the rods and instead is viewed by the cones.
