In the new year's blog, Juhani said:

Next year we are looking to scale Sailfish OS into new levels through new partnerships – recently we have had a huge increase in the interest towards Sailfish OS licensing from different kinds of device vendors.

I was thinking towards the tail-end of last year that some devices made by Polar Electro Oy might be a good fit for Sailfish, in so much that they have apps and devices for tracking people's movements/heart rate/cadence and many other things. Not only that but they are European, and more specifically Finnish. One of their apps tracks a whole team's heart rates (multi tasking) which is a good fit from a software point of view.

In any case, I have accepted the offer to speculate, and invite you to do so as well on this thread. Which kind of device do you think will be on the list of "different kinds of device vendors"?

@Ryan Polar devices don't even work with Sailfish!

  1. They aren't based on android drivers, so porting Sailfish is impossible
  2. Android support doesn't work with Bluetooth
  3. Polar devices can't connect to Sailfish because Sailfish is missing "Bluetooth Smart" drivers

@jollailija Regarding 1) - AFAIK, that's nonsense, SailfishOS does not rely on Android (bionic) drivers. Yes, it has an advantage of being able to utilize them through libhybris, but it doesn't require them in any way. Or do you think that SailfishOS on Raspberry Pi runs on Android (bionic) drivers??

SailfishOS is just another Linux distro, just optimized for mobile use.

Regarding 2) and 3) - both things are likely to change if SailfishOS development continues (which is probable).

@jollailija yeah - I know Polar devices dont work with Sailfish - and I understand that he may well be just meaning some phone vendors - but I still think it would be a cool thing! Anyway, 'different' uses of english certainly does lead to massive speculation - just have a look over at talk.maemo.org in the tablet thread! .. and anyhow, what's to stop Polar creating a tablet?

@nodevel 1) Well, installing a touchscreen OS on a low-resolution-display sport watch with buttons is nonsense anyway ;)
2) 3) <joke>I also can't make coffee with my Jolla currently, but you never know if someone makes an other half for that. Everything is possible.</joke> I was talking about the current situation. I also hope they get bluez libraries into Sailfish.
@Ryan :)

@jollailija, regarding 3.) http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=96321

BTW this is purely IMHO but "Bluetooth Smart" as a trademark//symbol/wtf for BTLE is really really funny if you start to think about it... I would rather call it "Bluetooth Stupid" as that is how it is in reality :)

I don't think that Juhani meant "different kinds of devices", but "diffrent kinds of DEVICE VENDORS"; meaning companies that sell devices. So probably, just cooperation with companies that can adapt SFOS.
